Chinese New Year

We have started this half term in EYFS by learning about and celebrating Chinese New Year.  We have talked about our own experiences of the Chinese New Year in Manchester, plus learnt about Chinese traditions and customs.  We have compared this to the ways in which we traditionally celebrate New Year.  We have been making dragon masks and Chinese lanterns.  We have looked at Chinese writing and written Chinese New Year cards.  We had an exciting food tasting session too, our class are very fond of sweet and sour sauce with rice!  We have had a go at using chopsticks to pick up small objects (a great fine motor activity!).  In PE our class did some dragon dancing – we took turns playing the drum and moving faster and slower with the beat.
