F1 – Winter

Since Christmas we have been learning about winter. We have explored how our environment changes and compared this to the changes we see in autumn. We also discussed how the weather changes in winter and thought about the clothes we need to wear to keep warm. Although we didn’t get enough snow to build a snowman, we made lots of snow castles and explored the ice on the ground. We also collected the hailstones and observed what happened to them throughout the morning.

We made winter pictures in the creative area and had a go at painting with the ice cubes. We also made igloos using sugar cubes and created our own snowflakes in the funky finger area. In our role play area we created Elsa’s castle and spent lots of time creating our own Frozen stories. In maths we spent time counting and sorting snowflakes. We also made our own shape snowflakes. In literacy we explored the story ‘Guess How Much I Love You in Winter.’ We spent time orally retelling the story and created a story map. We then innovated the story to create our own section. In our writing sessions we then drew this section and wrote our own sentence.
