Welcome to Year 6

Teacher Mr Knapper
Assistants Miss Khalil
Key Stage UKS2

Here you will find useful information to refer back to during the year should you need to.

Your child will choose a reading book to read with you at home this year. Please make sure that their reading diary is signed weekly and that children are reading daily for approximately 15 mins. Once finished, the children are to change their book for a new one. Your child should be able to read between 20 and 30 books per year depending on the length of the book. How many can you read this year?

Homework will be sent home each Friday and will consist of English, Maths and spelling to consolidate the learning from that week, to be completed in their homework books. Homework is due in on a Wednesday. There will be a creative homework set each half term and this is a chance to work on a longer, more creative project

Each half term we will be learning about a different topic. This will alternate between Geography/ History and Art/DT.

We will be reading a variety of class books over the year. These could include: Trash by Andy Mulligan, Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo, Wonder by RJ Palacio amongst others. We are loving making connections between the different themes and characters from other books we have read.

Some of our PE lessons will take place outside this term and we would appreciate it if you could bring your child into school wearing their kit on their PE days. PE kit consists of black shorts, white t-shirt and trainers. PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. The children are currently developing their skills in Rugby and Swimming.

Finally, this is the year for SATs and preparation for high school! We will steadily increase our practice towards these exams over the year. Booster sessions for maths will be held with the help of other members of staff. These may be at lunch time or after school. Please encourage your child to simply try their best and work hard this year. The tests should not cause your child undue stress so please let us know if there are any issues surrounding this.

If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to speak to us or send us a message on Dojo and we will be happy to help.
