We were delighted to welcome Mr John McCorkell to St. Mary’s to lead our Disability Awareness Day. The day started with a whole school assembly which focused on the theme ‘Everyone has a gift from God.’ He helped the children to understand that there are a range of disabilities which can mean that things can take a little longer for some people. Mr McCorkell emphasised that everyone has abilities or ‘gifts’ from God which should be used to help each other.
Assembly was followed by class workshops and the children were encouraged to ask questions throughout. Everyone was impressed by the children’s attentiveness and the level of empathy their questioning demonstrated. It was a most successful day.
