About Us /

Special Educational Needs and Pupils with Disabilities (SEND)

St., Mary’s follows the code of practice for children who have special or additional needs.

Aa a one form entry school, all of  our classes have children on mixed ability.  Our teachers provide work designed to match the needs of each child within their class.  They do this through a range of different strategies including the level of support, scaffolding, adaptive teaching and the use of additional adults.  This makes each of our classes an effective, inclusive environment.

If a child has special or additional needs, parents will be informed and involved in discussions.  Your child may be added to the special needs register.  These children will have specific short term targets which are regularly monitored through our ‘Assess – Plan – Do – Review’ cycle.  Parents are involved in this cycle.

For a small proportion of our children, we may involve the use specialists from outside of school.  Parents will be informed of this in advance and will be able to ask questions and raise any concerns they may have.
