Welcome to Year 2! We wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you to Year 2 and give you some information about the year ahead.
Our P.E days are Tuesday and Friday. Children should come to school in their P.E kit on these days
Our school P.E kit consists of:
· Plain white t-shirt
· Plain navy-blue shorts (navy blue jogging bottoms in the colder weather)
· Navy-blue sweatshirt/cardigan/pullover
· Trainers
Reading is fundamental for your child’s success. At St. Mary’s, we are passionate about developing your child’s love of reading. We read in school daily and we welcome your support in reading with your child at home. In Year 2, reading books will be changed weekly. The children will continue to read phonetically decodable books matched to the sounds they know, before moving on to longer chapter books which focus on developing children’s fluency. They will also receive a Reading for Pleasure book from our school library for you to share with your child.
Books are due in on a Thursday and sent home on a Friday, providing their reading record is signed.
Spelling homework is set on a Friday for your child to practice at home for a spelling test the following Friday. Spellings will match the phonics/spelling learning your child has been completing in class that week.
If you need to contact your child’s class teacher, all communication should be through Class Dojo.
