Welcome to Year 6
Throughout the year we will be studying and learning about lots of different topics from the amazing Ancient Greeks to the mighty Amazon River, with units about caring for our environment and a trip back to Viking times!
In Literacy, we read some quality texts including Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ and ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ by Michelle Magorian, also studying the viking myth ‘Beowulf’ and Anthony Horowitz’s spy novel ‘Alex Rider, the wide range of genres provides great inspiration in the writing and enhances the children’s vocabulary.
Following the ‘Power Maths’ scheme of work the children start the year looking at place value, then onto the four operations, fractions and decimals and then area and shape. Looking at statistics and measure in the Spring term. This scheme of work focusses upon maths mastery, developing a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.
