We went out onto the playground to see the fire engine and the highlight was an opportunity for all of the children to have a go at firing the hose!

Liturgical Prayer

Year 2’s class liturgical prayer took place this week. The theme was based on the scripture verse ‘Love one another as I have loved you’ and the children told the story of the feast of St Valentine to develop this message. The class also described how they could live out these values in their daily lives and spread God’s love to others all around us.

Class Dojo – Years 2,3 and 4

This week Class Dojo has been rolled out to parents and children in years 2, 3 and 4. Year 5 have been trialing the app for the past week and it has proved extremely successful. It is an excellent tool for communicating between school and home. Teachers are able to answer questions and queries relating to home learning and children can also upload their work to their own portfolio so teachers can have a look and provide feedback.

All parents in years 2,3,4 and 5 should have now received an invitation to join Class Dojo and have also received a QR code so the children are able to set up their personal portfolios. Follow the instructions, download the app and you are ready to go. If you haven’t received your invitation or QR code please contact the school office.

Seaside Project

Elizabeth has shared her home learning on her seaside snack project. Mrs Haste was most impressed and said that it looks delicious. Maybe you could follow Elizabeth’s instructions too. Well done.

Home Learning

Home learning for all year groups is now available on the class pages. Some of the work may need downloaded to look at but the majority should be able to be completed within the children’s home learning books.

For maths there are also links to both the Power Maths scheme of work which we follow in school and has been adapted for use at home and also the White Rose Hub which is very similar, easy to use and navigate.

Please continue to use Times Tables Rockstars (we can see who has been using it regularly) and reading on a daily basis.

Finally, don’t forget to keep fit and active with PE with Joe Wicks each morning.

Yr2 St. Lucia

This term we have been exploring ‘Saint Lucia.’

First of all we practised our map skills by locating where Saint Lucia is and how to travel there.   We found out about the climate and thought about what you would need to pack to go on holiday.  We explored the landscape and discovered the wildlife with help from ‘Animals Intuition’ to help us think about habitats in Science.

We then designed new rainforest creatures based on what we learnt about animals.  Some examples included a ‘Sparrot’ with features of a spider and parrot as well as a ‘Parfrog’ which looked like a parrot with frogs legs!

In Design Technology we explored different types of musical instruments.  We created tropical fruit patterns before designing and making our own musical instruments.

  • Staircase House is the most stupendesest place on earth and is lots of fun.
  • Staircase House staff let you dress up as the most important people from the past and build houses.

Santa visits St. Mary’s

Santa was able to squeeze a visit to St. Mary’s into his busy schedule.  First of all he had requested a ‘pupil progress’ meeting with Ms Reeves, then with a big smile on his face he visited our EYFS classes and Years 1 and 2 who all sang their favourite Christmas songs for him.

Babushka

Congratulations to our EYFS and KS1 children on their excellent performances in their Christmas production.  Our EYFS children sang a selection of Christmas songs with great joy and gusto. While our Y2 gave a very confident performance of Babushka even enough many of them were feeling under the weather, ably supported by our Y1 choir, who showed tremendous promise for next year.
